Shared Branching
Shared Branching in credit unions is a cooperative service network that allows members of participating credit unions to perform a range of banking transactions at other credit union branches—just as if they were at their own.
How It Works:
Credit unions that belong to a shared branching network (like the CO-OP Shared Branch network) give their members access to thousands of branch locations across the country. When visiting a shared branch, members can:
- Deposit and withdraw funds
- Make loan payments
- Transfer money between accounts
- Get account information
- Purchase money orders or cashier’s checks (varies by location)
What You’ll Need:
To use shared branching, members typically need to provide:
- The name of their home credit union
- Their account number
- A valid photo ID
- STARTING MAY 1 – IDCheck (see below)
Why It’s Valuable:
- Convenience: Great for travelers, college students, or anyone who moves often but wants to keep their hometown credit union.
- Access: Especially useful in areas where your credit union may not have a physical branch.
- Community-Focused: Reinforces the cooperative spirit of credit unions—working together to serve more people.

IDCheck
What is IDCheck?
I
DCheck is a secure and reliable way to verify your identity in-branch, keeping your account safe.
Shared Branch transactions are now easier and more secure than ever!
If you bank at one of our Shared Branch locations, a teller can now
identify and authenticate members in the branch using a QR code and
one-time passcode multi-factor authentication verification. This
additional layer of authentication – called IDCheck – will be used for
loan payments, cashier’s checks, deposits, withdrawals, transfers and
account inquiries.
How it Works:

Scan the QR code located in the branch or visit coop.org.

Select your credit union’s name from a drop-down list.

Enter your member number and the last four digits of your social security number.

Upload a photo of your ID.

Take a selfie
- Show your one-time passcode to the teller (passcode is valid for 20 minutes.
