In 1956, during his pastorate at Notre Dame Church in Waterville, Maine, Reverend Frederic J.
Carpentier was approached with the idea of establishing a parish credit union. Father Carpentier requested Father Antonio A. Gosselin, his associate pastor, to look at the Lewiston
credit unions before making a decision. An organizational meeting was called and held in the Notre Dame Church parish hall on August 16, 1956. On August 27, 1956, a
"parish" charter was granted with the field of membership as "members of the parish of Notre Dame Church in Waterville, Maine." The original Board of Directors
included E. Albert Rancourt, President; Edgar Poulin, Vice President; Cecile A. Bernard, Secretary; Earl R. Rancourt, Treasurer-Manager; Florent (Paul) Letourneau, Onesime Cote and
Raymond F. Veilleux, Directors. Earl R. Rancourt worked on a volunteer basis for more than two years, until the credit union could afford to pay a wage. In 1963, Earl was offered
and accepted the position of full-time Manager. Mr. Rancourt then renovated the basement of his home on 1 Collette Street, Waterville, to accomodate the new office. On Sunday,
October 27, 1973, the new credit union building located at 5 Kimball Street, was dedicated to the memory of E. Albert Rancourt. At that time, the credit union had assets of $1,250,000
and a membership of 1,600 members. The credit union moved to its current location in June 1987. We now have assets of over $46,000,000 and a membership of over 8,000 members. The
charter was changed in 1974 to include "residents of that part of the City of Waterville, Maine". This allowed the credit union to become a "community" credit
union. In October 1979, the charter was changed again to include "persons who work in that part of the City of Waterville, Maine". In 1983, the National Credit Union
Administration allowed credit unions to redefine their meaning of "members of the immediate family". On July 1, 1992, Calvary Temple's Berean Federal Credit Union merged
with Notre Dame Waterville Federal Credit Union.
